On November 29, 2012, Memphis Grizzlies’ forward Quincy Pondexter visited Bruce Elementary in Memphis, TN. Pondexter toured the school and visited classrooms with the principal, and spoke to the students and staff about healthy habits and physical fitness during a school-wide assembly as part of celebration for making their school a healthier place to learn and work.

Bruce Elementary was honored with a Bronze National Recognition Award from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation for successfully transforming its health and wellness culture, and for improving its nutrition and physical activity programs. Bruce Elementary implemented a fruit and vegetable program, a walking program for its students, and has a partnership with Memphis’ Methodist Hospital to provide exercise opportunities for teachers and faculty.
