Brandon Knight Visits Detroit School

On October 7, 2011, Brandon Knight of the Detroit Pistons visited Mark Twain Elementary-Middle School in Detroit, MI to rally students and staff to continue cultivating a healthy school environment and to promote healthy habits and physical activity. Knight shared his healthy lifestyle practices with the school and encouraged the students to eat nutritious foods and to participate in regular exercise. Knight also led students in quick fitness breaks and basketball drills.

Mark Twain Elementary-Middle School is a member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program and is working to make significant changes in the areas of school meals, physical activity and staff wellness. The school has been incorporating a daily fruit or vegetable snack as part of its meal program, offers bi-annual cooking classes for students and their parents and offers quick fitness breaks to students throughout the school day.
