The Wassermans have supported undergraduate scholarships at Brandeis since 1977 through The Lew and Edith Wasserman Endowed Scholarship Fund. Since that time, the endowed scholarship fund has grown to a value of more than $1.5 million. Five to ten middle-income undergraduate students per year are awarded the Wasserman Scholarship.
Lew and Edie Wasserman became involved with Caltech in 1968 when Lew accepted an invitation to participate in the President’s Council. To date, 672 Wasserman Scholarships have been awarded to 471 Caltech students, with scholarships directed towards students with financial need, particularly women and students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, and meritorious sophomores, juniors and seniors.
The Wasserman Foundation has supported undergraduate scholarships at Georgetown University since 1988 when Lew and Edie Wasserman’s granddaughter, Carol Leif, attended Georgetown. Approximately five Georgetown middle-income undergraduates are awarded the Wasserman Scholarship annually.
