The Campaign for NYU and the Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) have received a major gift from the Wasserman Foundation that will bolster the University’s ability to attract the nation’s brightest students. Casey Wasserman, the foundation’s president and chief operating officer, finalized the $5 million donation in February.

At 30, Wasserman is the youngest member of the NYU Board of Trustees and is also a member of the TSOA Dean’s Council. He is also the chairman and chief executive officer of Wasserman Media Group, LLC, a leading sports and entertainment management, marketing and content company.

More than half of Wasserman’s gift, $3 million has been earmarked for the Tisch School, which will double the size of the Edie & Lew R. Wasserman Scholarship Fund, founded in 1985. Seventeen Wasserman scholarships are awarded each year to undergraduate and graduate students in every department at Tisch. The remaining $2 million will be given to the University as a whole in support of the Campaign for NYU.

“The Wasserman Foundation’s reaffirmed commitment to the Tisch School of the Arts is extremely gratifying, and will play a very important role in recruiting and retaining the highest caliber students,” said President John Sexton. “And the fact that such a substantial portion of this gift will support the Campaign for NYU ratifies our mission as we work to bring NYU to the next level of excellence.”

“Casey’s gift through the Wasserman Foundation makes even larger the largest scholarship fund at Tisch,” said Mary Schmidt Campbell, dean of the Tisch School of the Arts. “Just as important as his generosity is his decision to remain personally involved with the Wasserman scholars. He meets with them annually and encourages then to stay connected to each other.”

Wasserman’s most recent meeting with the scholars took place on Feb. 9, when he participated in a roundtable conversation with current scholarship recipients to hear about their professional interests and their experiences at NYU.”

“This is truly a landmark gift,” said Sexton. “Casey Wasserman is a wonderful friend to this University and a very special member of our NYU family.”
