In 1985, Lew Wasserman received an honorary degree from New York University, beginning a relationship with the school. After learning about NYU’s distinct areas of study, an endowment was established and the Lew and Edie Wasserman Scholarship Fund at the Tisch School of the Arts created. The gift was earmarked specifically for academically successful students from middle-income households, working to pursue an education in the fine, dramatic or technical arts. Once again, the Wasserman’s philosophy of offering support to those who need the extra financial push to make higher education a reality came to life.
Throughout the years, former Tisch Dean David Oppenheim cultivated the relationship between the Wasserman family and the school, which carried on and continues to thrive today with current Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell. As a result, the Wasserman Fund is the largest at the school, and an average of 33 Wasserman Scholarships are awarded annually to both undergraduate and graduate students. Since its inception, the Lew and Edie Wasserman Scholarship Fund has awarded over 600 scholarships.
Currently, Casey Wasserman sits on the Dean’s Council for the Tisch School, as well as serves on the Board of Trustees for New York University.
