The History of the Wasserman Scholarship at Georgetown University
Georgetown University’s original connection to the Wasserman Family was through Carol Leif, a graduate of Georgetown who is the granddaughter of Lew and Edie Wasserman, and sister of Casey Wasserman. While Carol was a student, her family became close to Georgetown. It became clear that the Wasserman Family and Georgetown University shared a fundamental belief in the value of student financial aid and what it can do to change lives.
The Wasserman Foundation established the Wasserman Scholarship at Georgetown in 1988. Since that time, more than $1,000,000 has been awarded to Wasserman Scholars. The Wasserman Family has continued to stay involved at Georgetown, and Casey Wasserman has visited the Washington, DC, campus to meet personally with Wasserman Scholars over the years. As of June 2005, there have been 41 Wasserman Scholars at Georgetown. Their careers paths have ranged far and wide, including jobs in medicine, law, education, business and military service.
For information on how to become a Wasserman Scholar, you must contact the school’s admissions office directly.
